Practical advice for every stage: fresh graduate, career switcher, or seasoned PM.
One page, always
Unless you have 10+ years of experience, keep your resume to a single page. Recruiters spend an average of 7 seconds on a first scan.
Lead with impact, not duties
Instead of 'Responsible for sales', write 'Grew monthly revenue by 32% in Q3'. Quantified achievements stand out immediately.
Mirror the job description
Paste key phrases from the job posting into your resume naturally. ATS systems rank resumes by keyword match before a human ever reads them.
Use strong action verbs
Start every bullet with a verb: Built, Led, Shipped, Reduced, Increased, Designed, Automated. Avoid 'Helped with' or 'Assisted in'.
Put Education near the top
If you have less than two years of work experience, list your degree first. Include your GPA if it is 3.5 or above.
Projects beat a blank experience section
A personal project, hackathon submission, or open-source contribution shows real skills. Describe what you built, the stack you used, and the outcome.
Internships and part-time work count
Barista, tutor, campus ambassador โ any role teaches teamwork, reliability, and customer communication. Frame it in terms of what you achieved.
Leadership outside class matters
Club president, society treasurer, sports captain โ list roles that show you can organise, communicate, and take responsibility.
Structure bullets as Problem โ Outcome
Describe the user problem, your decision, and the measurable result. 'Redesigned onboarding flow, reducing drop-off by 40% and lifting day-30 retention by 18%.'
Name the products and their scale
Recruiters want to know what you shipped. State the product, its platform (iOS/web/B2B), and its scale (MAU, revenue, team size) where possible.
Show cross-functional ownership
Mention who you partnered with: 'Led roadmap planning with a team of 6 engineers, 2 designers, and a data analyst.' This signals real PM scope.
Include methodology and tools selectively
A brief Skills section listing Agile, OKRs, A/B testing, SQL, Figma, or Jira is useful โ but only if you actually use them. Recruiters do ask.
